The MULTIVAC R 145 is a highly versatile, modular thermoforming packaging machine. It sits in MULTIVAC’s compact-to-mid-range segment, designed specifically to bridge the gap between small-batch entry-level thermoformers and high-speed, massive-scale industrial lines.

Because of its highly configurable nature, it is widely utilized in two main areas: food processing (especially for meats, seafood, and portion packs) and the medical/pharmaceutical industry (for sterile, GMP-compliant device packaging).

Key Technical Capabilities

  • Speed & Throughput: Capable of running up to 15 cycles per minute, depending on the material, forming depth, and whether a vacuum or modified atmosphere packaging (MAP/gas flush) is applied.
  • Material Flexibility: It handles both flexible and semi-rigid films, as well as complex aluminum laminates up to a thickness of 500 µm.
  • Forming & Dimensions: It commonly utilizes a standard 420 mm film width and offers a generous maximum forming depth of up to 130 mm for deeper products.

How the Process Works

If you are looking at deploying one on a production line, the basic physical flow follows a strict mechanical sequence:

1.Thermoforming (Heating & Shaping): Bottom Film.

The machine unrolls a bottom layer of plastic film and uses a mix of heat, vacuum, and compressed air to mold it down into a custom die, forming the pockets or trays.

2.Loading: Manual or Automated.

The formed trays advance down the open bed track where food items or medical supplies are filled from above—either manually by operators or automatically via portioning machinery.

3.Sealing & Evacuation:Top Film.

A top web of film is pulled over the loaded trays. The sealing chamber closes to pull a vacuum (and inject gas, if doing MAP), then uses high pressure and precise heat to weld the top and bottom layers hermetically together.

4.Cutting & Separation:Finished Packs.

Cross-directional cutters (guillotines) and longitudinal rotating blades slice the continuous ribbon of plastic into individual, clean-edged finished packages ready for box boxing.
