The Marel Compact Grader CG60 is a highly popular, entry-level automated sorting machine widely used in the food processing industry—particularly for poultry, fish, and meat portions. It is designed to bridge the gap between manual grading and massive, space-consuming industrial processing lines, making it a staple for small to medium-sized facilities or seasonal overflow processing.

How It Works

As food items move along the continuous conveyor belt, they pass over an integrated dynamic weighing scale. The system calculates the exact weight in milliseconds, compares it to a pre-programmed grading rule, and signals a series of mechanical arms (or «gates»). As the item arrives at its assigned zone, the gate rapidly swivels out to guide the product down a dedicated chute.

Core Application & Capabilities

  • Versatile Product Handling: It safely grades fresh or frozen products without causing bruising or damage. Common items include chicken fillets, whole wings, drumsticks, thighs, whole leg meat, saddles, butterflies, and small fish fillets.
  • Smart Batching Modes: Beyond simple grading (sorting pieces into bins of identical weights), the onboard computer can handle complex tasks like batching by piece count or fixed total box weights. This helps processors meet strict client specs while reducing «giveaway» (overfilling packages).
  • Hygienic Design: Built entirely out of food-grade stainless steel with smooth, rounded surfaces, it allows for fast, thorough high-pressure wash-downs to meet food safety standards.
  • Ease of Use: It is essentially a plug-and-play machine, often featuring a simple user interface capable of storing up to 50 to 100 customizable grading programs.
